Swiss painters discovered the sandstones as a unique landscape setting just over two hundred years ago. The well-known natural highlights such as Bastei, Königstein Fortress, Schrammsteine etc. have already inspired artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, Richard Wagner and Carl Maria von Weber.
