The Experience
The gorge is filled with beautiful rock formations and vegetation. The gorge is a narrow passage between the vertical slopes of the Iti and Kallidromos mountains. Water from the canyon provides irrigation for areas of special ecological value. The canyon was already known in antiquity. Near the entrance to the canyon, on the slopes of the Iti and Kallidromos mountains, on the southeastern side of the Sperchios valley, there was ancient Iraklia (Trachina), which was one of the five cities in the kingdom of Achilles.
